Three ponies worth as much as £5,000 have been stolen from a field in north Shropshire.

The stallions, named Rebel, Louis and Celtic, were taken some time between 1630 GMT on Wednesday and 1000 GMT on Thursday.

They were stolen from a field alongside the A442 Marchamley to Hodnet Road, about half a mile from Hodnet.

The thieves forced a chain and padlock on the gate before rounding up the ponies, which are known as Welsh Section Ds.

The offenders left behind five horses that were also in the field.

Police are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area and may have seen the vehicle used by the thieves.
