Committee survives confidence vote

Senator Len Norman seems set to keep his job
Jersey's Harbours and Airport Committee has survived a motion of no confidence by one vote.

The committee's president, Senator Len Norman, seems set to keep his job despite a call for him to step down after the motion was defeated by 25 votes to 24.

It was Senator Ted Vibert who brought the motion of no confidence against Harbours and Airport, principally for the committee's handling of the Emeraude Lines affair.

The troubled ferry company's Solidor Five vessel was impounded last month because it owed £300,000 in unpaid harbour dues.

The debate started on Tuesday and finished on Wednesday afternoon.

After the result was announced, Senator Christopher Lakeman urged Senator Norman to consider standing down.

Senator Norman did not respond.
