Motorists warned of A14 closure
Part of a major road through Cambridgeshire will be closed to traffic at the weekend when a new bridge is installed.

The 77-metre span cycle and foot bridge, which will link Milton with Cambridge, will be secured into place on Saturday and Sunday and will force part of the A14 to be closed.

Diversions will be put into effect in both directions from 2100 GMT on Friday 7 November until 0500 GMT on Monday 10 November.

The diversions will begin eastbound at junction 33, the slip road for Milton, to junction 35 while the westbound closure begins at Nine Mile Hill, the interchange with the A11, and ends at junction 33.

Extra time for journeys

The bridge, which has been built in sections alongside the A14 at Milton, had been scheduled to be installed in September, but construction staff ran into assembly problems.

Highways Agency project manager, Chris Haseman, said: "I am happy to say the problems encountered in assembling the bridge have been resolved and it is ready to be moved into its final position across the dual carriageway.

"We have waited for a weekend when the closure would cause least disruption to local events.

"The A14 will be re-opened as soon as possible in order to cause as little disturbance as possible but I would urge drivers to leave extra time for their journeys, as delays are likely."
