Pier crash captain bailed
The damaged pier
No-one was hurt in the accident in November
The captain of a dredger that smashed a 50-foot hole in a historic pier has been granted bail after appearing before magistrates.

The dredger - Motor Vessel Donald Redford - collided with Hythe Pier in Southampton Water about 1800 GMT on 1 November.

Andrew Cameron Bartlett, 37, a Master Mariner, from Milton, Portsmouth, was charged with endangering life and causing serious damage to the pier.

Mr Cameron was granted bail at New Forest Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The case has been adjourned until Friday 9 January, when he will appear for committal proceedings at Southampton Magistrates Court.
