Police appeal over 'brutal' attack
Sackville Street, Londonderry
The man was attacked in Londonderry's Sackville Street
Police have appealed for information about an attack in Londonderry in which a man was seriously injured.

He was attacked by two men in Sackville Street shortly after 0230 GMT on Tuesday.

During the attack, the men jumped on the man's head while he lay on the ground.

Inspector Brian Hume said it was a "brutal attack".

"It is probably one of the worst assaults you can get," he said.

"At the end of the day there is a possibility if you jump on someone's head you will kill him," he said.

"At this stage, as far as we are aware, he is still unconscious and is seriously ill.

"Just one assault is too many and obviously people want to come out and have a good night in the city centre without getting assaulted.

"We have to stop incidents like this and any help we can get, we would be keen to speak to anybody."
