Woman injured in explosion
A woman was injured when a gas explosion ripped through her flat in Greater Manchester.

The 55-year-old was found among the debris of the flat in Bolton, after the explosion took place in a shop below, causing part of the building to collapse.

Emergency crews were called to the shop just before midnight on Tuesday, after the explosion in Blackburn Road.

On Wednesday the woman was being treated in hospital, where her condition is described as stable.

Faulty oven

Greater Manchester Police said they were alerted after neighbours heard "a loud bang" at Carrs The Butchers.

"The woman who lives in the flat above the shop was discovered amongst the debris," they said in a statement.

She was initially taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital, before being transferred to Wythenshawe specialist burns unit, after suffering 15% burns to her legs and back.

Police believe the explosion was caused by a fault in an oven in the building.

No-one else was injured and the incident not being treated as suspicious.
