New unit for hospital
A new £8m urology unit is to be built at Nottingham City Hospital.

It will treat patients with problems like prostate cancer and kidney stones.

The present urology centre at the City Hospital site is based in cramped turn of the century buildings.

The new unit will be seven times bigger than the current department.

It will contain three theatres for inpatients and two more for day surgery cases.

The extra capacity will help patients have more privacy and retain their dignity which is something staff say is often a struggle at present.

Construction work will begin early next year, with treatment starting in the new centre by Spring 2005.
