Doctors have inserted metal plates in the face of a man who was the victim of an unprovoked attack in Cirencester.
The 22-year-old man had left a club in Castle Street at 0100 GMT on 1 November and walked to a nearby taxi rank.
After waiting for about 15 minutes he decided to walk home and headed up Gosditch Street in the direction of Gloucester Street.
A police spokesman said: "The next thing he remembers is waking up about 10 minutes later to discover he had suffered serious facial injuries."
The man stopped a passing car and was taken to the town's hospital for treatment, before being transferred to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
He has since undergone an operation to have metal plates inserted in his face due to the severity of fractures caused to his jaw and cheekbones.
Police said the victim had no memory of any assault.
