'Golden goodbyes' - How they voted
handshake
The payments to councillors have proved controversial
Councils across Wales have to decide how to respond to controversial plans to give long-serving councillors a "golden goodbye" of up to £20,000.

Labour Welsh assembly members voted narrowly - against opposition from the other parties - to offer severance payments to councillors with service of 16 years or longer.

Supporters of the scheme say the plans will clear the way for a broader cross-section of people to take part in local democracy.

So far, 10 of Wales' 22 local authorities have voted to reject the scheme and seven have decided to adopt it.
