Woman dies in nursing home fire
An 80-year-old woman has died following a fire in her room at a Tyneside nursing home.

Firefighters rescued the woman from her bedroom at Stanton Grove Nursing Home, in Marden, North Tyneside, at 2200 GMT on Monday.

She was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital where she was treated for severe burns but died on Tuesday morning.

Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.

In a statement, a spokesman for Stanton Grove Nursing Home said: "Everyone in the home is very sad about this tragic event and we send our deepest sympathy to the lady's family and friends.

"All our other residents were safely moved to another area of the home and our fire procedures were followed.

"Only one room was affected and no residents have had to be relocated.

"Our staff are assisting the professional fire investigators into ascertaining the cause of the fire."
