New housing for air base
RNAS Culdrose
The new accommodation will replace buildings more than 30 years old
New accommodation for servicemen is set to be built at a Cornish air base.

The new blocks at RNAS Culdrose near Helston will replace buildings which are more than 30 years old.

The Ministry of Defence is phasing in a replacement of the accommodation which is used by junior ratings.

The MoD does not need planning permission for the development, as the air base is Crown land, but it has asked for the views of the local council on the proposals.

It wants to build four housing blocks which will provide beds for 264 servicemen.

They will replace current accommodation which offers space for 302 service personnel.

The whole project will take five years to complete, and will eventually include accommodation for senior officers.
