Tax hike for second homes
People who own holiday homes in some parts of Wiltshire face a rise in council tax bills.

Kennet District Council has voted to cut the 50% rebate on second homes.

It will only be able to collect up to 90% of the bill, as the government says second home owners have to have a discount of at least 10%.

Up to £263,000 per year will be raised by the move, to be distributed between the police and local councils.

Andy Hart, financial services manager at the council, told BBC News Online: "There are nearly 500 second homes in the area.

"Other people are subsidising them at the moment, increasing council tax bills for everyone."
