The victim was shot as he left a shop

A 50-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot outside a shop in Gravesend.

The shooting happened at 2110 BST on Thursday in Parrock Street as the man was leaving the shop - thought to be a hairdresser's.

He was taken to the Darent Valley Hospital and has been treated for gunshot wounds to the stomach.

The injuries, believed to be caused by airweapon pellets, are not thought to be life threatening.

Kent Police have taken an initial statement from the victim, but say he is refusing to co-operate with them.

The man has told officers he did not see anyone fire the gun and would not tell them if he had.

Crime scene officers conducted an initial investigation in Parrock Street overnight.
