A 23-year-old man is in a stable condition after being stabbed in the street.
The victim was standing outside a bank on Princess Avenue, Hull, at 1645 BST on Thursday when he was approached by another man.
A police spokeswoman said that following a "brief altercation" a fight broke out in which the victim suffered serious chest injuries.
He was taken to Hull General Infirmary with "life threatening" injuries but has since been transferred to Castle Hill Hospital where his condition is now described as stable.
The man who launched the apparently unprovoked attack was seen driving off in a black S-registered Ford Escort.
