Detectives have been granted a further 36 hours to question a man in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old woman.

Salford magistrates granted the warrant authorising further detention on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old man, who was arrested on Monday in Colne, Lancashire, is suspected of murdering Linda Neale.

Her body was discovered in Cliff Woods, Higher Broughton, Salford, Greater Manchester, on 18 August 2003.

A post-mortem examination revealed she died as a result of head and neck injuries.

The teenager had grown up in Childwall, Liverpool, where she was known as Linda Wellbelove and later as Linda Binns.

She moved to Lancashire two years ago and to Salford about seven months ago.

The arrested man was being questioned at Collyhurst police station.
