A 12-year-old boy is in hospital after a road accident in Taunton.

The car involved, a Volvo containing two men, colliding with another vehicle further down the road.

The boy was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital where he is being treated for head injuries and suspected fractures to both his legs.

The crash happened just after 1200 BST on Friday at the junction of Church Square and Magdelene Street, as the boy was crossing the road with his father.

The second car involved, a Ford Granada, was being driven by a 71-year-old woman from Taunton.

She was unhurt but "very distressed", say police.

The two men in the Volvo were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
