Three men have been arrested in connection with a fatal crash in Northamptonshire in which a pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed.

Police said the men were arrested in east London and were being held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The unnamed 26-year-old woman was driving a red Vauxhall Corsa when she was fatally injured in a collision with another vehicle on the A5 between Stony Stratford and Towcester on Monday afternoon.

A BMW travelling north collided with a Rover car coming from the opposite direction.

The Rover then collided with the pregnant woman's Vauxhall Corsa.

The 26-year-old woman was airlifted to Milton Keynes General Hospital, but she died.

The men, two aged 28 and one aged 25, were arrested on Wednesday and taken to police stations in Northamptonshire where they are to be interviewed, a police spokeswoman said.

A red BMW car was also recovered in the Leicester area and is being transferred to Northamptonshire for investigation.
