A coroner has recorded a verdict of accidental death after an American serviceman was killed in a car crash in Suffolk.

Senior Airman Jonathan King died in April this year when the car he was travelling in was involved in a collision with a coach on the B1106 at Timworth, near Bury St Edmunds.

An inquest at Bury St Edmunds on Thursday heard that the car, which had a trailer, was being driven by local man Gregor McNair.

Witnesses reported that the trailer was wider than the car and began snaking wildly behind the car.

It then clipped the bank and the car and trailer veered across the road and collided with a coach.

Mr King, who was based at RAF Mildenhall, was pronounced dead at the scene and Mr McNair has been arrested in connection with the accident, the inquest heard.

The inquest was told that both the car and the trailer had problems with their brakes, but this did not cause the accident.
