Child death driver jailed
A Nottinghamshire man whose car was overloaded with five children has been jailed for causing the death of one of them.

Nottingham Crown Court heard the vehicle careered into a field near Retford throwing seven-year-old Adele Thornhill to her death.

Melbourne Exton, 37, of New Inn Walk in Retford has been jailed for four and a half years and banned from driving for five years.

His partner and Adele's mother, 31-year-old Penny Good, pleaded guilty to neglecting the children and was jailed for a year.

Exton pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving while over the alcohol limit after leaving a pub in North Wheatley in August of last year.

Judge Michael Stokes said the five children should never have been in the Vauxhall Calibra saloon.

The judge told Good she had repeatedly ignored advice about not using the car and had put the children at risk.
