Michael Rosen is a broadcaster and writer.
He was
born in 1946 in north london.
He read English at university and was then employed by the BBC as a
trainee producer/director. He went on to National Film School.
Micahel has written
mostly but not only children's books (poetry, short stories, picture book
texts, biographies, a prose-poetry memoir and a novel) since 1974.
He has won
several prizes including Smarties Best book of the year (for 'We're Going on
a Bear Hunt' with Helen Oxenbury) and the Eleanor Farjeon Award for
outstanding contribution to children's literature.
He has presented a variety of programmes for Radio 4, Radio 3 and the World Service
including: 'Treasure Islands', 'Best Words', 'Word of mouth' and several
series of illustrated talks including 'On Saying Goodbye' (Sony Gold) and
many schools TV programmes mostly for the old ITV schools and more recently
Channel 4 Schools.
Michael pursued further academic studies in the 1990s getting an M.A. and a Ph.D.
He is now a Visiting Professor in the Education Department at London Metropolitan
University where he teaches on a variety of courses and writing groups.
He lives with his family in Hackney, London.
