'Offensive' hog roast faces ban
Street of shops in Bath city centre
Councillors are worried the stall could offend visitors
A woman who wants to hold a weekly hog roast in Bath could be banned from doing so because of fears the meat could offend visitors.

Marie Gibson plans to set up a stall selling freshly-cooked pork in Union Street every Sunday.

But the council may stop her because the police are worried vegetarians and Muslim and Jewish visitors to the historic city would be upset by it.

Mrs Gibson says she is simply trying to run a business, but local police chiefs have raised an objection to her plans, saying they fear the stand is not in keeping with Bath's image.

They also claim the food stall could offend animal rights campaigners and homeless people in the area.

Mrs Gibson's proposal will be discussed at a meeting in Bath on Thursday night.
