A 14-year-old boy has admitted raping a 12-year-old Cumbrian girl at the Appleby Horse Fair.
The boy, who comes from a travelling family but cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday.
He was charged after an incident at the fair on 7 June.
The youngster was remanded to secure accommodation near Southampton, where he lives.
Judge Pamela Badley told the boy "a custodial sentence of some length" was inevitable.
He will be sentenced on 14 November after probation officers have compiled background reports on him.
