Train derails in southern India
Four people have died after a train derailed in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, the authorities say.

At least 30 others were injured in the accident, which happened early on Thursday shortly after the train left the city of Mysore.

Four carriages of the train, bound for the state capital, Bangalore, jumped the tracks, the state government said.

An inquiry has been called into the accident, which comes after a spate of crashes on India's antiquated railways.

Crashes

About 14,000 trains operate daily in India, carrying about 13 million passengers.

Last month a crash in Andhra Pradesh state left 21 dead. Fifty-one people were killed in June in a disaster south of Bombay.

In September last year at least 100 people died when an express train derailed on a bridge in the eastern state of Bihar.
