Teenagers injured in shooting
Four teenagers were recovering on Monday after being shot in Merseyside with what is believed to be an air weapon.

Two of the victims needed hospital treatment after the incident in Knowsley on Saturday night.

A 16-year-old girl was hit just below her right eye, while an 18-year-old man was hit in the face and leg.

Merseyside Police said a 36-year-old man from Kirkby has been arrested in connection with the incident, and a number of weapons were recovered after officers searched a house.

'Victims shocked'

The force carried out a helicopter and dog search of the area in Southdene, following the incident at about 2115 BST.

The other two victims, 16 and 17-year-old girls, suffered minor injuries and did not need hospital treatment.

They were all shot as they stood outside Brookfield High School, off Bracknell Avenue.

Detective Sergeant Chris Green, of Kirkby CID said the incident could have been "much more serious".

Witness appeal

"Thankfully the people are shocked but have suffered only minor injuries," he said.

"The illegal use of air weapons is completely unacceptable, and police in Knowsley will act quickly on any information from the community to suggest that air weapons are being misused."

During the house search officers recovered a blank firing imitation handgun, an air rifle and a semi-automatic air weapon.

The arrested man was due to be questioned later on Monday. Witnesses should contact Kirkby CID or ring Crimestoppers.
