Man's body found on road
Police are investigating after a man's body was found on a major North East road.

Emergency services were alerted after passing motorists reported seeing the body at 0730 BST on Monday.

It was discovered on the southbound lane of the A1 Western Bypass near to Kingston Park, in Newcastle.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said the death is currently not being treated as suspicious.

No further details about the man have yet been released.

The road was closed to traffic at that point which led to long tailbacks.

Diversions have been set up and the police spokeswoman said efforts were being made to reopen the road as soon as possible.
