Six people have been rescued from their flats after fire broke out in a shop in the centre of Ayr.
The fire in the shop on the ground floor of a four-storey tenement in High Street began about 7pm on Sunday.
The residents were trapped by thick smoke in a central stairwell and were rescued by fire crews using ladders and a hydraulic platform.
One fireman was injured when a stairway collapsed. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
