Dispelling myths about Islam
Muslim communities are holding a series of events to try and challenge some of the misconceptions about their religion.

The Islamic Awareness Week is being organised by the Indian Muslim Welfare Society and aims to explain the beliefs of the UK's 1.6m Muslims.

As well as displays and exhibitions at the Al-Hikmah Centre in Track Road, Batley, West Yorkshire, there is a series of seminars to help the town's non-Muslims explore Islamic values and traditions.

Topics include Islam and women, Islam and health, and the principles of Islam.

Local employers are being asked to encourage their staff to attend the sessions.

There will also be an opportunity for local people to tour mosques in the Batley area.
