Pc Dunne's memorial service is at Sutton Cemetery

A memorial service has been held for a policeman who was shot dead in south London 10 years ago.

Community officer Pc Patrick Dunne, 44, was killed when he went to investigate the sound of gunfire in Cato Road, Clapham, on 20 October 1993.

He had been attending a minor disturbance on the other side of the street when he heard shots.

William Danso, 31, a security guard, nightclub bouncer and small-time drug dealer, was shot six times after answering his front door to three men at about 2100 BST.

Pc Dunne was shot once in the chest.

The men, armed with a baseball bat and two handguns, were seen to laugh and fire shots into the air after murdering the two men.

The killers have never been found and the Metropolitan Police and a national newspaper are jointly offering a £100,000 reward for information.

The investigation into the double murder was re-launched in 2001.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Richardson, of the Specialist Crime Directorate, who is heading the investigation, said: "Ten years have passed since the needless and brutal murders of William Danso and Pc Dunne and the Metropolitan Police Service remains committed to bringing those people responsible to justice.

"We are pleased with the progress we are making with the re-investigation and remain hopeful of a successful conclusion.

"We continue to appeal to anyone who may have information or may have witnessed the incident to come forward and speak with police.

"These murders were acts of particularly senseless violence that remain as shocking today as the day they were committed."

The memorial service was held at Sutton Cemetery in Surrey.

A new Specialist Crime Directorate building in Sutton, due for completion in January, is to be named Patrick Dunne House after the murdered policeman.

Ivan Dunne, Pc Dunne's brother, said: "We all miss Patrick terribly and we always will do.

"I was so pleased (to hear about Patrick Dunne House) - I nearly fell off my chair. It is a big local landmark and the whole family is thrilled. It is what he deserved and it is also a dedication to officers on the beat."
