Body found on towpath

A police investigation is under way after a man's body is found by the side of a canal.

The body was discovered by a member of the public at the side of the Nottingham Canal, off Coventry Lane in Bramcote, at about 2100 BST on Sunday night.

A post mortem examination will be carried out to find out how he died.

A police spokeswoman said: "We are investigating the death of a white male who was found on the canal towpath shortly after 9pm."

It is not yet known if the man's death was suspicious and officers are attempting to trace witnesses.

The spokeswoman said that inquiries are underway to confirm the victim's identity.
