Deepcut father vows to fight on
Private Geoff Gray
Geoff Gray was one of four soldiers who died
The family of a soldier who died at an army barracks will go to the High Court after being told the investigation into their son's death has ended.

Private Geoff Gray, from Seaham, County Durham, died from two bullet wounds to the head at Deepcut Barracks in Surrey in September 2001.

He was one of four soldiers who the army claim committed suicide by shooting themselves.

Private Gray's father, who is also called Geoff, said the families involved expected a new inquest following fresh evidence and were shocked to be told otherwise.

Mr Gray told BBC Radio Newcastle he was prepared to go to the High Court to overturn the decision and vowed to fight on for the truth into his son's death.

The dead soldiers
Sean Benton, 20, from Hastings, East Sussex, 1995
Cheryl James, 18, from Llangollen, north Wales, 1995
Geoff Gray, 17, from Seaham, County Durham, 2001
James Collinson, 17, from Perth, Scotland, 2002
He said: "I can't see how we can't have another inquest into Geoff's death, our legal team can't see how we can't have another inquest into Geoff's death, so I'm very, very confident.

"I won't let this lie. I deserve to know the truth about how my son died and Geoff deserves that truth to come out as well."

Private Gray was one of four soldiers who died at the barracks between 1995 and 2002.

The families of the dead soldiers have refused to accept the theory that they committed suicide using their own rifles and have called for a public inquiry into the deaths.

An investigation by Surrey Police was launched last year after serious doubts emerged about earlier judgements that all four cadets had committed suicide.

A team of 30 detectives from Surrey Police interviewed more than 400 witnesses during the course of the year long investigation.

Last month the force said the investigation had found no grounds for prosecution.
