Man held after shooting
Newmarket seige
The stand-off lasted for seven hours
A man has been arrested after a suspected armed stand-off in which a taxi driver was shot with an air rifle.

Police fired a baton round as the man was arrested at 2200 BST on Sunday, seven hours after armed officers were first called to a house in Newmarket, Suffolk.

The taxi driver suffered minor wounds to his stomach when he was shot from a window of the property in Exning Road.

A number of other shots were fired but no-one else was injured, police said.

The suspect, who was arrested as he walked out of the house, is being questioned at a police station in Bury St Edmunds.

A police spokesman said that as a matter of course the Police Complaints Authority had been informed that a baton round was fired.
