Candle warning after house fire
Fire officers in Northamptonshire have issued to a warning to parents to keep candles and lighters away from youngsters.

It follows an incident where a five-year-old boy set his bedding alight this weekend.

The incident happened at a house in Scotter Walk in Corby at about 1100 BST on Saturday.

Firefighters believe the youngster lit a candle or an incense stick and dropped it setting the bedding alight.

Smoke alarm 'saving grace'

A smoke alarm sounded alerting the rest of the family to the fire.

The Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service have appealed to families to take more care and keep lighters and other flammable materials away from children.

A spokesman said the smoke alarm was the "saving grace" and it could otherwise resulted in a possible fatality or serious burns.

The family escaped unharmed but have had to be re-housed by the council.
