A police investigation is under way after a woman's body was found on a Gwynedd beach.

The coastguard said the body was discovered at the seaside resort of Criccieth, on the Lleyn Peninsula just after 1000 BST on Sunday.

North Wales Police said they are not treating her death as suspicious.

A spokesman said: "Police are investigating but at this stage there is no evidence to suggest foul play."

Police said the woman has not been identified.

She was wearing a red coat, blouse and grey skirt when her body was recovered.

They believe she was aged between 55 and 70-years-old.
