Prayer marathon for community
Churchgoers in Devon are praying 24 hours a day for the next week on issues concerning their community.

People in the Ivybridge area can request prayers on any subject.

Members from all six churches in the Ivybridge district are taking part in the prayer marathon.

Some of the issues they will being praying about are relationship breakdowns, drug and alcohol problems and violence.

Prayer room

A prayer room is being used at Ivybridge Methodist Church where the event started on Saturday evening.

Many people are taking part in a rota pattern and a minimum of two people will be praying during the night.

From Monday between 1000 BST and 1200 BST each day, a stand will be set up in Glanville Mills precinct in Ivybridge where people can write a card to ask for prayers on any issue they would like.

The town council has asked for prayers to improve the quality of life in the community.

The organisers of the event hope it will show people that church members can act on issues that affect everyone.
