Drugs charge Briton released
A Briton accused of drug trafficking in Thailand has been freed on bail.

Robert Bailey, 44, also known as Robert Neilson, of Bad Bargain Lane, York, was arrested in a Bangkok hotel after police allegedly seized drugs at his home.

Mr Bailey was remanded in custody on Friday after pleading not guilty to a charge of attempting to traffic drugs.

But he was released the following day after paying £10,000 bail money to the Thai authorities.

The charge against him has also been reduced to possession of drugs.

Police say they seized 600 grams of heroin, 500 grams of cannabis and 80 bottles of ketamine at Mr Bailey's rented home in the beach resort of Pattaya on 4 October 2002.

The drugs were allegedly packaged and addressed to Mr Bailey in the UK.

He was arrested on Wednesday after police were tipped-off by his Thai girlfriend.

If found guilty of possession, Mr Bailey faces a jail sentence of up to 20 years.
