Net widens for fatal crash driver
Corsa
The woman had been driving a red Corsa car
Police are appealing to a car driver to give himself up after the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child in a crash.

Officers are still trying to find the red BMW and its driver involved in the accident in Northamptonshire on Monday.

It happened on the A5 at about 1640 BST, between Stony Stratford and Towcester.

The BMW travelling north was overtaking traffic and struck a Rover car coming from the opposite direction.

The Rover then lost control and collided with the pregnant woman's Vauxhall Corsa.

I am asking the driver to make himself known to us and warning him that we are already making strenuous inquiries to trace him
Chief Inspector Jim Titley
The 26-year-old woman was airlifted to Milton Keynes General Hospital, but both she and her baby died.

She has not been named at the request of her family.

The driver of the red BMW stopped 200 yards up the road and got out of the car, but then drove off northbound on the A5.

He is described as a young Asian man who had at least two or three other young Asian men in the car.

Details of the accident have been circulated to all police forces in the country.

Busy road

Chief Inspector Jim Titley, of the Northamptonshire Police, said: "The A5 is a very busy road and the accident happened right in the south of Northamptonshire.

"Traffic in the area could have come from anywhere to the south, from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, so we have been trying to reach people there to appeal to anyone who may have information about this car and its occupants.

"I am asking the driver to make himself known to us and warning him that we are already making strenuous inquiries to trace him."

Drivers are asked to ring Northamptonshire Police on 01604 700700 or they can leave information anonymously on our Drivewatch Hotline 0800 174615.
