Goodrem clears up at music awards

Doctors allowed Goodrem to attend the show

Neighbours actress and singer Delta Goodrem has swept the board at the Australian Record Industry Awards.

She scooped seven prizes including best Australian female artist, best Australian single, highest selling single and album.

It was a personal triumph for Goodrem, 18, who is being treated for Hodgkins disease, a form of lymphatic cancer.

She had been nominated in a record 10 categories in one of her native country's leading awards ceremonies.

Goodrem has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment after revealing in July that she was suffering from the disease.

She was cleared by doctors to attend the awards ceremony in Sydney on Tuesday night.

On receiving one of her prizes, she excitedly thanked her family and the record executives who signed her to her first record contract when she was 15.

She said: "If you ever think there's not wonderful people out there in the world, then come and visit my house and see all the beautiful letters and well wishes that I got in the last two months."

Goodrem came to national attention in the soap opera Neighbours, in which she plays a singer called Nina. She has left the cast temporarily while she continues her treatment.

Her debut album Innocent Eyes, released earlier this year, is top of the Australian charts and at number two in the UK.
