Coastal work to protect village
Kingsand
The coastal protection work will include strengthening the sea wall
Work on stabilising four properties in a Cornish coastal village to stop them being damaged by winter storms will start this week.

There will also be emergency work carried out to the sea wall in Kingsand.

The coastal protection work will shore up the area in front of the Islet Cottages, The Cleave and a nearby boathouse.

The stabilisation work will also protect Market Street, which lies behind the cottages.

Stormy weather

The project is being funded by Caradon District Council, which has applied for a £140,000 grant from Defra.

It is likely to take eight weeks for the work to be completed.

All the building work will take place on Kingsand Beach, with the materials being taken along Fore Street and Market Street.

The council says the properties are not in immediate danger, but the work must be carried out before the winter because any stormy weather could cause more damage.
