Pc wounding charge dropped
Police investigate
A police helicopter was scrambled and the Coed Helen Caravan Park near Caernarfon was sealed off

The case against a man alleged to have wounded a North Wales policeman by running him over and fracturing his skull has been dropped.

Pc Osian Wyn Davies was hospitalised after a car careered into a police van through a road block on a narrow road at Coed Helen Caravan Park, near Caernarfon, in June.

A blue Renault Laguna was later found abandoned and a man arrested following a search of the area which included the scrambling of the police helicopter.

Patrick Clegg, 35, of Coventry, was later charged with attempting to murder Pc Davies.

The charge was later reduced to wounding, which Clegg denied.

Sentenced

But the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to pursue the case after he pleaded guilty at Chester Crown Court on Friday to four robberies in Gloucestershire.

Clegg also asked the court for 37 other offences to be taken into consideration, including robbery, burglary and offences of dishonesty.

Judge John Rogers told him he would be sentenced on 6 November.

Mr Davies has been in the force for nine months and was serving his first day at Caernarfon when the incident happened.
