United fights to gag ex-employee

Manchester United has started a court battle to stop its former head of security from speaking out about his time working for the club.

The club wants an injunction to stop a Sunday newspaper printing extracts from a new book by Michael Kelly.

Mr Kelly, an ex-SAS man, left Manchester United last year after allegations he was touting tickets.

The newspaper has delayed publishing the extracts - due to start this Sunday - pending the outcome of the club's application to the High Court.

A club spokesman said: "We are seeking an injunction on the grounds of breach of contract."

Publishers Michael O'Mara Books say Mr Kelly's memoirs will be one of the most controversial written about Manchester United.

Mr Kelly has spent the last year writing the book - called Manchester United: The Untold Story - after working at the club for 12 years.

A decision will be made by the High Court next week.
