Man knocked down and killed
An elderly man has died after he was knocked down as he tried to cross a busy road.

The man, who has not been named by police, was hit by a car in Curzon Road, Calne, Wiltshire, at 0845 BST on Friday.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "The gentleman suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene."

Officers investigating the accident, which happened as a number of cars were stuck in a traffic jam, have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

"Traffic was heavy at the time this happened, and we would ask people whose cars were in the queue which this man tried to cross through to get in touch."
