Inquiry into council housing staff
Flintshire County Council sign
Flintshire's housing maintenance department is being investigated
An investigation has begun into staff at Flintshire County Council's housing maintenance department which could result in sackings or disciplinary action.

A more detailed investigation will be carried out after initial findings by auditors revealed major weaknesses in the system.

Councillors have agreed that a more thorough audit will now be carried out into allegations of more detailed improprieties.

"The report does not make good reading," said council leader Alex Aldridge.

"We were aware of a number of serious allegations and that is why we have taken this seriously and brought in external auditors."

The most serious concern centres around claims that goods were bought from external contractors when the items were available for less in the council's stores.

Auditors also reported that a contractor banned twice was still receiving work from the local authority.
