An attempted murderer is still on the run after absconding from an open prison.

John Stephen Booth left Leyhill prison in South Gloucestershire on Thursday.

The 48-year-old prisoner was convicted of attempted murder in London in 1981.

He is described as white, 6ft 5ins tall, of very thin build with cropped grey hair and a beard and moustache. His arms and hands are quite heavily scarred.

Police have asked anyone who sees him or has information on his whereabouts to call 999.

A police spokeswoman said if spotted Booth should not be approached.
