Toby Studabaker was extradited from Germany

A former United States marine has appeared in court accused of abducting a 12-year-old girl he met over the internet.

Toby Studabaker, 32, of Michigan, allegedly went missing with the youngster in July.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, comes from Greater Manchester.

Mr Studabaker was arrested in Germany after a five-day international search.

He was extradited to the UK to face two charges of child abduction.

He is also accused of a further serious offence.

Appearing at Bolton Crown Court on Tuesday, Mr Studabaker spoke only to confirm his name and was remanded in custody.

He will reappear at the court on 3 November for a plea and directions hearing.
