Four bailed over street shooting
Four people arrested after a father-of-three was shot in the street over a row over a taxi fare have been released.

The 39-year-old Reading man, who has not been named, was shot in the chest in the early hours of Sunday.

He remains in a serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The four men, aged 21, 34, 35 and 50, who were arrested after the shooting, have been released on police bail until 20 October.

Family party

The victim was shot in Caversham Park Village after a night out at a family party.

He and his wife, along with his brother and his girlfriend, caught a taxi from a family party in Woodley to Farleigh Mews in Caversham Park Village at around 0300 BST on Sunday.

It is believed there was then a row with the taxi driver over the fare.

A second, larger dispute, involving a number of people, followed, which resulted in neighbours calling 999 to report what they believed was the sound of gunshots.

Police say the weapon used was either a small handgun or an altered imitation firearm.

Superintendent Dilip Amin said: "At the end of the day, we have a man who suffered very serious injuries which could have killed him.

"Our main priority is to find the person or persons responsible, but we will do that with the concerns of the community and organisations at the forefront of our minds."
