Woman accused of mother's murder

A woman has appeared in court charged with killing her mother.

Susan Cayton, 47, of Mount Pleasance, in St Helens, Merseyside, was remanded in custody until 29 September.

She is alleged to have stabbed 75-year-old Winnie Robinson more than 50 times at her home on Thursday or Friday last week.

Her body was found when fire crews fought a fire at the house in McMinnis Avenue.

Mother-of-five Ms Clayton spoke only to confirm her name and personal details and did not enter a plea.

But her solicitor indicated that she denied the charge.
