A train which was too high has struck a bridge
An investigation has begun into why a container that was too high was loaded on to a freight train, causing it to strike a road bridge.

The incident happened as the train was passing through Kingsbury in north Warwickshire just before the morning rush-hour.

The freight train was operated by EWS. A company spokesman said the load scraped under a bridge.

One witness reported seeing sparks coming from underneath the bridge.

Passenger trains were diverted for a while, causing disruption to regular services.

The freight train was taken to sidings while the bridge was checked by structural engineers.

Trains were later allowed to pass under the bridge at reduced speeds.

No-one was hurt in the incident, which a Network Rail spokesman described as "extremely unusual".
