Shut works prompts water plea
Water tap
People are being asked to not leave hosepipes running
A call has been made for residents to conserve water after a treatment works was forced to shut down temporarily.

On the hottest day of the year so far people living in parts of Kent are being told they should be careful with their water.

It comes after a burst pipe at the Burham works near Snodland on Sunday caused damage to electrical equipment.

This forced the works to shut down for 12 hours so repairs could take place.

Avoid sprinkler use

Householders in a number of areas are affected including Aylesford, Leybourne, Larkfield, East Malling, West Malling and Bluebell Hill.

Some residents in the Medway towns are also being urged to use water wisely.

Southern Water and Mid Kent Water are the companies whose customers are affected.

A Mid Kent Water spokesman said: "We are urging customers to use water wisely whilst the problems persists.

"Mid Kent Water would like to thank customers for their co-operation and apologise for any inconvenience."

People are being asked to avoid using sprinklers and to not leave hosepipes running.
