Food dye warning
Lincolnshire Trading Standards are warning people to watch out for a potentially hazardous food colouring.

The alert affects some products known to contain chilli powder, which has been illegally contaminated with the dye.

The dye, which is called Sudan 1, has been found in some batches of Rajah products and Shaws 1889 Yorkshire Relish.

It is thought the dye can cause cancer if it is eaten on a regular basis.

The Food Standards Agency has asked the companies to recall the contaminated products, which can be identified by checking their use by date.

Lincolnshire Trading Standards is warning people, in particular caterers who come across the dye, to destroy it or take it back to the shop where it was bought.
