Plans to upgrade adventure park
These are the plans for the site
A council-run adventure facility catering to young people is embarking on a programme to re-develop the ageing site.

"ASCENT @ The Mill" is based at Kings Mill Reservoir, between Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mansfield.

It encompasses a range of programmes providing opportunities for personal and social development for young people and activities such as climbing, caving, sailing, kayaking, canoeing and a high ropes course.

Opened in the 1970s, The Mill now provides over 10,000 sessions of adventure to Nottinghamshire's young people each year.

WHAT A VIEW

The facilities were not originally designed to cope with these numbers and operators are aiming to improve the site.

The Mill has been allocated £375,000 of lottery money from the New Opportunities Fund as part of the PE and Sport in Schools programme.

However far more money will be needed to redevelop the site, managers say.

Planned works include new refreshment facilities, larger and changing and toilet facilities, more classroom space and an indoor adventure facility to be used in bad weather.

"The new facilities would allow for greater all year round access for young people," a spokesman said.
